Hello,

I'm trying to load dosbox onto a BartPE CD but when I launch the app I get a window that pops up and then disappears. I've done it a few times and the message just says that it is loading the config.

I suspect it's because of the read-only state? Please let me know if I'm on the right track, or if you know of a guide for loading DosBOX onto BartPE.

Thanks,

Gug

Copy DosBox to a read/writeable media like a USB stick or your HD, or your ram drive if you think that's the issue.

I think it's likely that you didn't install your video card drivers so Bartpe is using it's generic driver. If you don't want to install your video card drivers then you'll need to set DosBox to use windib.

Dosbox really doesn't care whether the conf is read only, at least not on my system.
It's more likely the graphics driver problem DosFreak points out.
So I'd recommend putting a batch file into the dosbox folder and write into it:
set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windib
dosbox.exe

and link that batch file to the BartPE start menu.

Thanks Dominus, what you suggested worked perfectly. However, I don't think DOSbox does what I wanted it to do. We are trying to run a wipe utility (somewhat like FDISK) but DOSbox does not load physical drives (or at least, my software can't detect them.

Please let me know if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the help,

Gug

It's an emulator, the last thing we want is direct physical access onto hard disks 😉

What exactly do you want to do?

Thanks for the responses. Unfortunately we have to use a specified wipe utility called Wipedrive Pro. This is the only one approved by our security group.

The original software comes in a linux package, from which you can create a dos bootdisk (or boot directly from the cd in linux). Our goal was to simplify this and use only 1 CD, from which we also run our diagnostics and imaging software.

Anyways, that's it in a nutshell. Thanks again for all your advice and assistance.

Hmm, well you can use the software on the same CD as BartPE. You just can't use it when your in BartPE.

If you download the Windows Ultimate Boot CD and boot it up you will have a boot menu which will allow you to boot different programs (one of which is BartPE), the other programs are linux boot disks and DOS boot disks.

You can easily modify the Windows Ultimate Boot CD and add your disk image to the boot menu if you wish,

What is this Wipedrive Pro? A Windows or DOS program? If it is a DOS program, can't you use your BartPE CD to launch FreeDOS and run Wipedrive from FreeDOS?
