Hello,
I wanted to record a long-run with DosBox`s recording facility because I tried using Camtasia studio but it dosen`t work efficiently plus that it slows my computer so the game lags and Camtasia really records the skipped frames 😒 . So I have tried recording it the other way and I have runned a test and recorded 1 minute of the action and it takes up 12MB! It wouldn`t be a problem if I only kept this file but I also want to upload it on YouTube, and the recording will be at least of 1 hour. So now I ask you, DosBox fellows if you know any way to compress these movies to reduce the size?

Thank-you for reading this,
>-Andy-<

DosBox's recording function is the most efficient solution for recording video. Nothing else can do better.

In fact the audio takes up more space than the video. Best solution is to re-encode the audio to MP3 instead of re-encoding the video since any re-encode of the video will result in a greater video size unless you drastically reduce the bitrate (which will decrease image quality).

I think I remember hearing that youtube doesn't accept ZMBV but that was an old post from about a year ago. So if youtube doesn't accept ZMBV then you'll have to re-encode the video to a format that youtube accepts.

Also aren't youtube videos limited to the # of minutes and size they can be? Mabye a better video site would be a better solution.

Might be a good idea to just look on youtube for other DosBox videos and then contact whoever uploaded them to see what method they used....or better yet get Youtube to support ZMBV. Hell, it's been supported by ffmpeg for awhile.

Last time I checked was about a month ago, and Youtube didn't support ZMBV then.

At first I want to thank you two guys for replying and reading my post. I did contact somebody and to ask this question after I watched a video posted by him in witch he made a comparison between two movies in witch he used a patch to record more accurately the movies in DOSBox. He then responded me that he does not quite know how to compress the avi files but after that he claimed that YouTube processed those movies (he missed a part of my point why I need to compress those movies, in witch is the one that the movies will have a big size). I also have saw some long runs on YouTube that have 180 minutes and they were not splitted in more than 2 parts (see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ESMR-mO8BVM - I know, it does not have 180 min but it is longer than the limit of 10 minutes
that we knew) witch has however shocked me that I also knew that YouTube has a limit.
I want to thank-you DosFreak for submitting the link that could be usefull. I will also try to contact somebody on YouTube that has posted a long video.

EDIT: I have asked the respective person and it`s not avabile to post videos that are longer than 10 minutes and that`s really a bummer, this is only avabile for the ones that had a director account before the You Tube has inserted this stupid limit.
Also I found out that ZMBV is supported by YouTube now, hooray! 😜

Thank-you all again,

Youtube has the 10 minutes and 100MB limitation (per video).

Google has that same limitation if you use the Web-Based Uploader. For larger files, one can use the Desktop Uploader.

I can also confirm that the movies captured by DOSBox (ZMBV) are accepted in YouTube.

Check this video (89 MB original size) of a new game added to the compatibility list (sorry, just couldn't resist 😁 )

Thank-you for your confirmation njaydg.

I haven`t uploaded the movie yes (if I would have I would have posted ome links here 😁 )

After I have gone into video editing I got over a problem. That`s why I wanted to ask if there is possible to encode an edited video with this codec, and how to do it (just in case). Maybe the author of this plugin can help me with this.

Thank-you again,
