I have some problems by running certain games that have the ability to play sounds/midi by Gravis Ultrasound. For example,in the setup of Tyrian 2000 says that it cannot find the Ultramid driver and when I choose Gravis for sounds, it tells me that it is unable to initialize it. I have checked in DFR (I use D-Fend Reloaded as front-end) to activate GUS and the path to the driver is correct also I did some tests with the help of Gravis`s driver included test programs and it works. On top of that some other games are able to use Gravis both sound and midi with the same settings. My version of Dosbox is 0.72, and the GUS configuration is: Address - 240; Sample Rate - 44100; Interrupt1 - 5; Intrerrupt2 - 5; DMA1 - 1; DMA2 - 1. Is there any resolution for this? If you need some more in-depth information, please ask.

I did not. (I may sound n00b-ish by saying this) but I suppose that those patches won`t solve the problems as the patches are only the instrument set for the "soundcard". I repeat myself that other games (like Doom, Boppin', Star Wars: Dark Forces) are working with GUS midi.

Installed Pro Patches Light 1.60 and now some games are not playing at all or improperly plays the midi. Still the problem in Tyrian isn`t solved.

Have you actually loaded the ULTRAMID driver? It is included with the GUS driver disks as well as with many games. It still needs the patches (I'd recommend just using the original GUS ones).

Also, check your settings carefully (IRQ/DMA/etc.). Have a look at the dosbox.conf file to see the actual values. Maybe disable SB via dosbox.conf, so that possible autodetection doesn't get confused. I think digital sound should work in all games without the patches.

If other games refuse to play now most likely the settings don't match.
Anyways no idea if tyrian uses/needs the patches, for me sb16 was
pretty much fine.

The GUS Midi in other games WORK, just that they don`t sound like before (some instruments are missing and others sound strange).

If you mean the ULTRASND directory, yes, DosBox is set up to use the driver from the directory. I said that above, in my first post of this topic, but I suppose you did not bother to read. Additionally I have said that some games worked with GUS Midi before AND after I installed the Pro Patches Light 1.60 that wd suggested me to do (which of course did not solve anything, as I suspected)

I donnot know what values to set as I donnot know which Tyrian 2000 uses.

ULTRAMID is an executable you run before starting the game and setup.

Works for me with Tyrian 2.

That was it! Now I know that I have to run this every time I start the game (*duh*). Added it to an autoexec.bat line.

Thank-you all for help. 😊

Sorry to double-post but I have another problem with Boppin'. I can hear the sounds, but no midi! The help-program inside the Boppin' directory only tells me to set the interrupts under 7 and mine are both 5. What should I do to fix this? I`ve also tried to run ULTRAMID.EXE before the game but it does not solve the problem.

That did not solve the problem unfortunately. The help program told me to use the IRQ UNDER 7 so I suppose the value of 5 would be ok too. But nevertheless that I tired to change the value to 7.

Err misread, I thought you said to use I7. My bad. The defaults are IRQ5 for both IRQs and DMA3 for both DMAs, so if that doesn't work I am not sure. I never owned a GUS, but owned almost every SB out there, and have a few ESS cards as well.
