I have dusted off my copy of Wing Commander: Privateer again, and my only problem is actually hitting my targets. Every time I press up/down/left/right, my crosshair makes a big jump - not precise enough to hit my mark with any reasonable accuracy.

Any hints as to what I can try to make my keyboard controls more precise?

I have the same issue with the original Wing Commander and Wing Commander Armada too, so I don't think it's game dependent. I did not see any Keyboard sensitivity options in DosBox either, so I am a bit lost.

play with the cycles setting. There is no keyboard sensitivity in dosbox as it doesn't make any sense if there was any.

oh and please remove that link to the abandonware thing of privateer. Abandonware is not recognised as legal status here and not permitted.

I tried fiddling around with window's keyboard settings, but that did not have any effect whatsoever. I'll try and fiddle around with the cycle settings, currently have them on "auto".

Privateer link removed.

Thanks!

Tried cycles in ranges from 500 to 200.000, but as far as I could tell it did not change much at all. Settled on 60.000 though, game runs smoothly and does not use up too much CPU. Tried fullsceen vs windowed too, no change.

Meh, I don't have a joystick 😐

I guess I'll have to make do with this.

Actually, I tried switching to mouse controls - it was a lot better, but not very easy to use. I think a Joystick should really be a good solution then, I'll try to find one 😀

Thanks for the tip, h-a-l-9000.

Actually, Privateer's joystick control is pretty bad. It behaves like one of those old digital joysticks or gamepads without an analog stick. I recommend playing Privateer with a mouse.

Hmmmm, the mouse control feels pretty weird... especially since imo top and bottom movement is inverted. But with a few hours of playing that should wear off. I'll try it that way until I can get a joystick for some more tests.
