Ok, here's the deal: I've owned an ASUS Eee PC w/ Linux for about a week now, and I've been installing/uninstalling the system very day since something has always gone wrong.

The thing is that the Xandros repositories don't have a newer version of Dosbox than 0.65, and even though I've added some Debian repos today (on a fresh installation from yesterday) I can't get Dosbox 0.72 w/h Synaptic or Aptitude. Downloading from the site is fine, but frankly I have no idea how to install from a .rpm file.

My problem: even though I use keyb.com from the FreeDOS project, I can't get it to work. The readme files tell me nothing. I get the swedish keyboard layout that I'm looking for (using keyboard.sys etc), but trying to run an application in Dosbox does nothing as long as I have keyb.com loaded. I type "ultima" (for Ultima V, and yes I have the original game sitting in my sbookshelf so don't bother) and nothing happens. And playing some games with an American layout on a Swedish keyboard creates unnecessary hassle.

Any suggestions other than RTFM?

yeah yeah yeah metallica ftw.

You could compile it yourself:

Or arrange to get a pre-built version from swaaye.

This is a bug in the freedos keyb. I've sent them a patch long ago, which they
kindly incorporated (two lines or so) but in their next version they messed it
up again and when asking them they weren't interested in fixing it.
So stick to a self-built dosbox as MiniMax pointed out, and avoid the freedos
keyb utility (dosbox has easier matters for it and an internal keyb.com).
