I have severe problems installing the Gravis Ultrasound drivers in Dosbox 0.73.
It shows the following error:

"Install cannot determine the UltraSound card type installed.

This is usually caused by a base port conflict.
You should exit Install, remove the UltraSound Card and
Run CONSCAN.EXE on the first installation Disk."

Here's what I did.
1) I changed settings in the .conf to gus=true
2) I mounted the "Gravis" directory to C:\
3) I ran install.exe

I already checked those faqs:
http://www.angryflo.de/dosbox.htm#Ultrasound
http://www.dosgames.com/forum/about10574.html
Install Gravis Ultrasound Properly, All files, No Errors (With Pictures!)

And downloaded the Gravis drivers (v.411) here:
http://ftp.isu.edu.tw/pub/Hardware/multimedia/Gravis/gus411/

The installation process works fine under 0.72 and I have totally no idea why it doesn't work in 0.73. I use D-Fend-Reloaded v.0.81 so I can't simply downgrade to 0.72.
I also tested it with the standart releases of 0.72 and 0.73 without d-fend.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks but I did that. Anyhow I got it working with v.410 somehow - at least it works in the games.
I still installed it with dosbox 0.72.

The only games that doesn't work with ultrasound are future shock and skynet. Any ideas about that?

[Edit] Still, the installation doesn't work with 0.73. Installing it with 0.72 and playing the games with 0.73 seems to work, though. Furthermore it's only in Mono when set as the digital soundcard for example in Dark Forces.

Yep, I confirm that. I've enabled gus in .conf file and gus drivers can't detect it. Dosbox ver 0.73. In 0.72 it was working fine.

Thanks, that would be the solution for the installation problem.
But I'm still interested in why it only delivers mono sound in most games - like Schleichfahrt aka Archimedean Dynasty or Dark Forces and a possible solution how to get stereo sound out of it.
