SOUND

  • I would like to adjust the DosBox sound volume without changing my host sound volume.

Use the MIXER command to adjust volume in DosBox.

Seems that this command is gone. Why? Commander Keen is such quiet although all Volume is 100% in Windows Vista SP2 32 Bit.

Any Idea to get this louder?

The mixer command is not gone, and little if anything about it has changed in recent versions of DOSBox. "MIXER FM 200:200" or so should make Commander Keen louder for you. Maybe you have no sound at all?

EDIT: If you're playing the early Keen games, then "MIXER SPKR 200:200" would be in order. Also make sure pcspeaker=true.

I have sound. But it is a bit quiet. If I type MIXER into the DosBox command prompt it says "Illegal command: MIXER."

Maybe you've messed up your PATH environment variable; it should include the Z: drive. Anyway, use "Z:MIXER" until you get your path fixed.

Well, that did the trick. I changed the PATH-Var for Windows 3.11 but I did not know that Z:\ is also in it. Thank you 😀
