After months of working properly, I now encounter the following problem running Dos Box 0.74 :

When I try to type a "\" character ("backslash"), I get instead a "]" ("right square-bracked"); several other keys echo incorrectly as well.

This of course prevents me from mounting a directory, and renders Dos Box unusable.

This error does not occur elsewhere on this computer (running Windows 7).

If I use the D-fend Reloaded front end, I can run my application, but this error in the interpretation of the keyboard persists within the application.

I have tried uninstalling Dos Box, downloading a fresh copy and reinstalling it, but this did not fix the problem.

Please advise.

Scott.

what is your dosbox version and where have you got it from?
what is your Operating System?
what are your PC specifications?

post content of "DOSBox Status Window" (in Windows: right click on its title bar -> edit)
enclose your dosbox's config file

Looks like your keyboard layout is simply set as "japan 106/109" in windows settings. Change to standard english 101/102.

In pure dos you would have the following in autoexec.bat

mode con codepage prepare=((850) C:\windows\COMMAND\ega.cpi)
mode con codepage select=850

...which is completely useless since this is not "pure dos".

Please post the information requested by robertmo.

I do not have Win7, so - not 100% sure. In Vista this is in Control Panel/Regional and Languages options/Keyboard and Languages. If you see something like "Japanese 106/109" - you find the trouble's source.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).

The keyboard setting in the Regional and Languages section of the Control Panel is "US Standard", so there seemed to be nothing to correct there.

Any other suggestions?

Scott.
