I have successfully installed DOSBox & a game Clash of Steel Future on a Macbook Pro with Mac OS 10.6.6 and the game runs fine. The game starts with a movie, and it has sound. Then I hit enter to exit the movie & enter the game menu, and I receive a message "Sound Hardware Not Found". And there is no sound during the game. There are no sound controls in the game menu, and there were no sound instructions during the game installation. I have included a pic of the folder the game is in so you can see the files. I don't see anything related to sound.

I know how to access the DOSBox Configuration file, but I am clueless as to what to do after that. If you can help, I would need it explained in baby steps, with spoon and bib.

Thank you to all who have contributed to DOSBox in any way.

If ayone wonders, it's this game: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/clash-of-st … -europe-1939-45

No clue why the game has no sound. Does it come on a CD or floppies? Maybe it needs its CD mounted. Maybe you downloaded a rip and are on your own...

Dominus, thank you for the ideas. As for floppies or CD, I think the 1993 edition came out on both. The 2nd ed. (Future - 1995) - I really don't know. I never even knew it existed prior to a few days ago.

I dug up my old manual for the 1993 edition (can't find the floppies or CD yet) and it had this to say:

"The two addresses, "TSR use IRQ $60" ande "TSR use IRQ$81," are for the Clash of Steel sound drivers. The game's sound routines are made memory-resident during game play and use these addresses to call up sounds. Both of these addresses are normally unused by your PC and should be left in the default mode. If you have a memory-resident program occupying one of these addresses, you can switch tot he other address.

If you get music, but no sound effects, if is often a symptom of incorrect IRQ settings. Try a different IRQ setting by typing INSTALL at the game directory."

It also says that Soundblaster, Soundblaster Pro, PC Speaker, and None are supported. The settings for both Soundblaster & Soundblaster Pro are preset to default.

Does that give you any further ideas?

Thank you

So if you don't know on what medium it came, it's a download? Unless you find the real thing, we don't need to discuss further. 1. We don't support abandonware because it's just a pretty word for piracy, 2. Legal issues aside, abandonware sometimes is crippled, missing files, altered files etc...

I'm back with a purchased CD of the game. Got it installed & running no problem thanks to the two recommended commands below:

Z:\>MOUNT C ~/DOSGAMES

Z:\>mount d /Volumes/COSV11/ -t cdrom

Still have the sound problem however. I have posted the contents of the game folder and relevant Readme.txt in case anyone has any ideas to get sound working. I would appreciate it. The movie sound works, but game sound does not. During installation, I kept the default sound settings & selected the Soundblaster Pro soundcard.

Thanks for looking, me happy
