Hi!

Some days ago I´ve installed Windows7 (64bit), and after that I reinstalled DOSBox. But now it doesn´t work at all. With my former Windows (XP) all was fine. Ok, the StatusWindows and also the other window appear, also the orange DOSBox-logo shows for half a second, but then just a black window even without any cursor. And after 2-3 seconds DOSBox shuts itself down.
Any clue what´s causing this???

Motherboard: MSI P45 Neo3 v1.0
Processor type and speed: DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E6400, 1866 MHz (7x267)
Amount and type of RAM: 4x DDR2 2GB
Video board w/ RAM amount and type: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 (1048256 KB)
Sound board: OnBoard (Realtek ALC888/1200)
Operating system: Windows 7 64bit
Reproducibility of problem: always
Version of emulator: DOSBox 0.74
Steps already attempted to solve the problem: don´t have any clue

Ok, tried it (all five options). But no success. The problem remains exactly the same.

and you saved and restarted dosbox?

if that doesn't work you might need to upgrade your graphic drivers to the very latest and/or use the windib thing (<- someone else please take over).

Saved: Yes. Closed the editor, and when I restarted it the otion were still changed. So I guess I´ve done it correctly.
Restart DOSBox: Yes. Since it shuts down after a few seconds, I´ve no other choice than to restart it. 😀
Graphic drivers: I´m using DriverMax. This little program keeps my drivers the newest possible.
windib: ????? What´s this? Please tutor me!

Read the manual (it's under the keyboard section, but it might help you).
I'd try updating my drivers (specially the nvidia ones) by hand; also...is your DirectX the latest version?

Please check what the status window writes prior to shutdown.

DirectX: Version 11
Status Window: Exit to error: MSG:Can´t load messages: C:\users\perechon\appdata\local\DOSBox\german

Right. C:\users does not exist at all. Where will I get the file needed in this folder?

ah, so you have configured some sort of german language pack ?
The download of dosbox from dosbox.com doesn't come with that installed.
So reset the configuration file (shortcut is in the startmenu)

If something is wrong with the language file, DOSBox will exit as well.

To check this behaviour, try to run DOSBox w/o language file first.

This post is to Qbix. I am a new member to this group because my copy of Dosbox has always worked fine. After getting another update from Microsoft to my Windows 7 - Home Premium, suddenly it doesn't work. It will load fine, but then it will not accept any keystrokes in any way. I am not knowledgaable "under the hood" so to speak, so I need a plain English solution or steps to take. I updated to the latest version of Dosbox (.074) in case that was the cause, but I get the same results either way. I could be wrong, but I don't see how my nvidia drivers could be the issue. An explanation would be greatly appreciated.

It says :

I appreciate your help on this. I seem to have gotten off on the wrong foot with Dominus. I belong to a psychotherapy users group and on that list, requests for an ex change of personal issues or needs are normally referred to back channel (or private exchanges) rather than on the general list. I had mistakenly assumed that same policy was in place here. I never meant to circumvent policy or ruffle anyone's circuitry.

I mean the other window. The console window. It should open alongside with Dosbox. (if not you have altered the properties of the link that you use to start Dosbox. If you did this and only if you did this, edit it again and get rid of the -noconsole part)
