Im trying to figure out how dosbox works with sound as there are some rather odd sound issues in a game that im trying to resolve, which are not present when i used to run it on win95 many years.

Is there anything in the dosbox configuration or otherwise that would cause music to play at a fixed volume all the time, regardless of any changes you make either ingame or via the sound setup utility (where you go to choose the midi/general audio devices).

Im looking at the dosbox configuration file now but i have no idea what im supposed to edit in order to disable music, but leave all other audio running....can anyone help?

As I wrote in the other thread it's more likely that you are using a different sound setup than back then. For example midi versus sb opl music. Midi music is generally controlled by your system and not dosbox, dosbox pases it through to the host.
Also take a look at the mixer utility.
