I am attempting to get DOSBOX to run with an older DOS based application.
I have got it running, but none of the screen sizes I have been able to use are acceptable.
If I set scaler=none, I get a very small screen. With scaler= hq2x forced, I get a screen that
is too big.
What I think I would like is something halfway in between these two options, e.g. scaling of 1.50.

Below are the relevant parameters I am working with:
-----------------------------------
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=1280x1024
#fullresolution=original
windowresolution=800x600
# ^^^ tried lots of things above. None made any difference
output=ddraw
# above parameters from the [sd1] section
# below parameters from the [render] section
aspect=true
scaler=hq2x forced
# This makes it too big. Without the "forced" it does nothing.
#scaler=none
#hwscale=2.0
# No value of hwscale seems to have any effect, with or without the hq2x parameter.
-----------------------------------

Added comment: I have done a large number of searchs and tried lots of suggestions that seemed to work for others, but none of them work for me.

What is original DOS app resolution and what is your monitor resolution?

The desktop monitor screen size is 1280x1024. The DOS program does not seem to have a specified resolution. When running that program on WIN XP via a shortcut, I can change its size using the property sheet of the shortcut -- i.e. font size. If I make a shortcut for DOSBOX and try to change font size, then it has effect on the DOSBOX Status window, but not on the application itself.
