I have dosbox but when I try to run it dosbox seems to just reset the screen and gives me c:\

When I try First Encounters I get 32stub error: can't find 32rtm.exe 😖

elite 2 is working perfectly under dosbox (0.71) for me. dont know what your problem is, maybe a bad or broken copy.

but dont waist your time trying to get first encounters working.
FFE crashes with a runtime error: unhandled exeption after playing the intro.
its the same on all dosbox versions...

use glffe or jjffe instead.

I downloaded elite 2 from here:

http://www.eliteclub.co.uk/download/

It's strange cos I don't get an error message. I type in the address of the file and it clears the screen with c:\ at the top. :s

hmm the shareware version from this site starts normally for me. no problems found...

first make sure everything is in the right folders, than use the frontier.bat and press "Y" to start the game.
but this is not really necessary...
you can also rename the FRONTIER.DAT from the "game" subfolder to FRONTIER.EXE and start it directly, like it should be.

hope this helps.

There has got to be something wrong with the version I have. I tried starting frontier.bat without dosbox and well I press Y and the window just closes. I have tried renaming frontier.dat to .exe and it opens a comandline window for a second and then closes it. If I change frontier.dat to .exe and start frontier.bat it renames frontier.exe to .dat

😖

you running it inside dosbox right ?
as a commandline window doesn't sound like dosbox.

sry my bad, by "start it directly" i meant running the frontier.exe directly under dosbox not dobbleclicking on it from windows. 😀

and dont use this .bad file it is complete useless...
