Hey all,

I'm looking for a way to choose a configuration to start DOSBOX. As in: I'm an older user and have some preferences for some eras. Let's say I come from a PS/2 Model 30, then pure Tandy 1000 land, then a 386SX Frankenstein clone, then on to a 486DX, and on to a high end Pentium 1. And I'd like to be able to have the same install but harken back to those old configs.

Is there anything that makes this easy? Even command line options to load a certain config and roll with it?

Welcome to the forum. 😀

You cannot load a DOSBox config dynamically, but many options can be changed from the DOSBox command line. The most common ones someone may want to play with are cycles, sbtype (and related parameters). CPU type, however, I think is fixed (requires restarting the app with a different config); not sure about video type.

I like using -userconf together with -conf <configfilelocation>.
<configfilelocation> only contains the options that are different from the main configuration file.

I just use this https://dbgl.org/ then I've got it set up in ideal config per game, but you can just set up an item to have it launch to command prompt in desired config with appropriate directory mounted to C i.e. your games directory root or something so you can just thrash around the file system like you were on an old box.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
