I'd like to try to port it into 0.74 for a specific scenario, but I'm having a hard time actually FINDING the patch.

It allowed you to utilize a physical OPL device for OPL output, rather than emulation.

It was available in Gulikoza's build, and hal9000's megabuild, but already applied to source and it's beyond my skill to extract that.

I just looked at dosbox-mb6.tar.gz from https://archive.org/download/DOSBox-Megabuild, which is a checkout of the plain dosbox trunk at r3661 and allows comfortable diffing. The changes you’re interested in will be mostly or completely confined to src/hardware/dbopl.*
