Hello, peeps! 😁 I've recently got Zork, really excited to try it... but the blue background hurts my eyes. I've scoured this forum for any glimpse of help, found something about adding "COLOR 7,0,0" to autoexec but that doesn't work. Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you for your time. <3
I've attached an example pic of the game running how it should be looking and another pic of the game running with Dosbox with the blue bg.
Can we solve it with an autoexec command or is there a "-" tag that could be added to the shortcut? Shortcut details below:
Target field: C:\Somewhere\DOSBox\DOSBox.exe "C:\Somewhere\ZorkDungeon\dungeon.exe"
Start in field: C:\Somewhere\DOSBox

the infocom interpreters use this blue background colorscheme programmed into it by default for some games. the easiest way to fix it is to use another interpreter.

i mean, there is no reason to run these in dos, but if you have to, dos-frotz works fine. otherwise I'd suggest getting gargoyle.

and if you want the dungeon game file;

"dosbox -machine hercules" is sure to disable any colors...

I am gonna sound extremely stupid but please bear with me and explain everything. I don't work with DOS and old software on a daily basis.

Run what in DOS? The game won't run in windows 10 just like that, I had to get dosbox, if there's no reason to run those in dos then *in what* should they be run?

I already have the game... what is that file?

Thank you for your patience. <3

Thanks! Modified target field to:

C:\OLDgames\DOS\DOSBox-0.74-3\DOSBox.exe "C:\OLDgames\ZorkDungeon\dungeon.exe" -machine hercules

(I'm not gonna substitute it again, it shows in the ss anyway)
See attachment, nothing happens. Though I don't see the blue where it was so that is a clear improvement. 😁
