Dosbox (0.74-3) on Debian 12 (Xorg) crushes on return to windowed mode from fullscreen (Alt+Enter)

1X Error of failed request:  BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)
2  Major opcode of failed request:  153 (XFree86-VidModeExtension)
3  Minor opcode of failed request:  10 (XF86VidModeSwitchToMode)
4  Value in failed request:  0x5800003
5  Serial number of failed request:  267
6  Current serial number in output stream:  269

In the process it fails to reset the screen resolution back, so I have to manually run xrandr

p.s.: the bug appears to manifest itself under Cinnamon, but not under KDE
