was wondering if anyone who used the delete method to reset the mapping of the backslash key found the remapped key simply appended the backslash after the right bracket (two characters for one keypress) instead of replacing it...this happens on my IOGear Bluetooth keyboard

This happened to me as well. I'm using a logitech wireless keyboard. No issues until my upgrade to windows 10 😒

For some reason even the on screen keyboard is doing the same thing. both keyboards work fine with everything else....so strange

Today I tried Dosbox-X and Dosbox Staging and the keyboard issue is gone but I would prefer to use the official builds from dosbox.

The solution for this is easier than I thought.
Go into Device Manager and look for keyboard that contains either 106 or 109 in the name (Microsoft eHome MCIR 10X Keyboard) . Update that driver to "HID-compliant device".
Backslashes finally can be typed in normally instead of right brackets.
