I have a Dell laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit with 2GB RAM and a 1.6Ghz dual-core Pentium processor.

I'm using version 0.72 of DOSBox without any frontends or anything. Here are my problems:

Quake:
-No sound whatsoever.
-Lags in the highest resolutions.

Carmageddon:
-Lags badly in only certain courses.
-No music.
-High resolution mode doesn't work.
-Takes about a minute to load a race.

What can I do?!? It's my first time here.

Your compi isn't strong enough

this is true
unless you have a 2.0ghz dual core with good cache don't even think about dosbox quake in 640x480. if you seriously need such performance go use a native port like winquake

Quake runs pretty smoothly in DOSBox for me unless it's in resolutions higher than 800x600. (And thanks for the help with my sound problem in Quake!) I'm bummed out that my computer isn't powerful enough to run Carmageddon in DOSBox without lag.
