Let's start checking. Item no. 2 in the instructions:

2) After DOSBox is installed, navigate to its entry in the Start Menu (DOSBox-0.73) and then select “Configuration,” and then “Edit Configuration.” If you have used DOSBox before, it may be best to run “Reset Configuration” first before running “Edit Configuration.”

You did that? Used DOSBox version 0.73?

Do you have the new freely downloadable version from Bethsoft.com, or do you have a retail version on CD?

If you have the download version, where did you unzip it?

not enough space: forgot/mistake in -freesize parameter
no cd: mistake in mounting the cdrom with the right label.

I did as specified

mount d c:\dosgames\dfcd -t cdrom -label Daggerfall

I got it to install but i still get the cd error afterwards.

Post a screenshot of that message, including the mounting line.

Could this cause a problem with reading the label?

Lots of people seem to get a "ERROR: Looks like you have inserted the wrong CD. Please insert your Daggerfall CD in your CD rom and try again." message. I'm not sure what the cause of it is, seem to happen to people on both Windows and OSX.

I would like to know what these people type wrong, if they type anything wrong or if DOSBox is to blame, but that seems unlikely since it works for so many others.

It is possible to bypass the disc check though, which was also needed to get Daggerfall to run on older versions of DOSBox, but that's not really solving the issue. Just walking around it.

I'm using DOSBox in Windows 7 to run the free Daggerfall release via Bethesda's instructions and it works fine. Make absolutely sure you're mounting the directory as a CD the exact same way each time your run DOSBox (I put it on the autoexec section of my dosbox.conf to save hassle). It's especially imperative that you specify the "-t cdrom -label Daggerfall" parameters to the mount command, with the label having that exact capitalization.

HunterZ, you are 100% correct. But that can not be the explanation here, because:

We can't know that with certainty without having OP post screenshot of DOSBox window with exact commands typed in and executed.
