Hardball 5 during install says it needs Files=30 in config.sys. It won't install. I am using dosbox under gentoo linux. Here are my system specs:
IBM T30 Laptop
ATI Radeon M7500
512 meg ram

Here is some dosbox info:

Z:\>SET BLASTER=A220 I5 D1 H5 T6
Z:\>SET ULTRASND=240,3,3,5,5
Z:\>SET ULTRASND=C:\ULTRASND
Z:\>mount c /home/supertool/hb5/cdrom
Drive C is mounted as local directory /home/supertool/dosapps/hb5/cdrom/
Z:\>c:
C:\>install
Loading HardBall 5, please wait...
DOS/4GW Professional Protected Mode Run-Time Version 1.97
Copyright (c) Rational Systems, Inc. 1990-1994
Initialization error: not enough FILES available.
Please add this line to your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot:
FILES=30

Thanks for any info.

Hey, I've been having a problem where I can't even get the game to start.

I have downloaded the version that is most commonly found and copied it into a folder for DosBox to use. If I try to just start the game it gives me the following error:

[FATAL ERROR: File GMTOOLS.C, line 317

note: These errors are often related to not enough free memory to disk I/O problems. See the manual for more information.]

So I use the VM option to allow Hardball 5 to use virtual memory. When I start it afterwards it goes to a black screen and sits there. On the console it endlessly repeats the line:

[DYNX86:Can't run code in this page!]

Does anyone else get this problem? Am I totally missing something here? The official doxbox compatibility list says that DosBox .72 should run it fine (Link below). Please help me out!

Thanks!
