I just learned of Dosbox and tried an old favorite game Descent. Descent runs fine, but the joystick does not work. The joystick works fine in Windows 10. Does anyone have any idea of how to get an old Microsoft Sidewinder Precision 2 Joystick to work in Dosbos playing Descent 1?

I ordered a Belkin Gameport to USB for my MS Sidewinder Precision Pro and didn't work, so i don't about that.

Also, have you tried doing Keyboard-only and using DOSBOX's Keymapper by pressing CTRL+F1, and map the keys to your joystick?

Ii wouldn't try the keymapper; if the joystick works in Windows then it's something wrong with the DOSBox config.

What does the DOSBox status window look like when you try to use the joystick?

Also, specify exactly what's going wrong. Does the joystick not respond at all? Does it sort of work, but gets jerky sometimes, for example... etc.

Specifics always help.
