The codec is part of the 0.65 release installation.
Look in the Start/Programs/DOSBox 0.65/Video menu,
not sure where it is on linux.

A tutorial about how to play avis??
Maybe try it on a different pc, both recording new avis and playing them
on your pc, as well as playing your recorded ones on a different pc
(which has the codec installed).
And you could open the file in virtualdub to see if both streams are present.

I dont know if this will work because I don't use Windows Movie Maker but you could try to install ffdshow (it's basically a DirectShowDecoder to decode.... everything). I don't know if that will work with WMM. Its quite possible though, as the decoder supplied with dosbox seems to be vfw (old) instead of direct show (new).

Download ffdshow here, take care while installing to click the field for ZMBV support (it's unclicked as default).
