I've got a problem with Clif Danger V1.3
(Shareware can be found at http://cd.textfiles.com/gigagames5/DOS/ARCADE/CLIFE_SW.ZIP)

(I'm using: dosbox .65, XP, no sound, 512MB memory, 1500Mhz Intel)

I can install the game and run setup, but receive an error when I run clif.exe, showing this message

Ungültiger Zeiger oder Pufferinhalt ungültig!
Cut - Sequenz Pool!

and giving a couple of illegal reads in the status window. Babelfish gives the translation "Invalid pointer or buffer contents invalidly!" so I changed size of memory, and xms/ems but got the same message. Loadfix and Dos32a also didn't make a difference.

Any ideas as to what's happening? Maybe the illegal reads hold some significance?

Did you try the shareware? It can't be installed inside dosbox, but once
installed (XP) it runs fine.

Yes: using shareware it won't install under XP (Runtime error 220), but if I install it in Dosbox then run it in XP I get a different error message (something about 'cannot find data').
Is there a specific compatability setting I need for it to run in XP, or should it work just on its own?

Well i don't know if the final problem is the same with the shareware
and the game, especially as the problem of the SW is caused by the
installation inside dosbox missing some file (i think they create a file
AND path at once, which fails).
You could try to boot up msdos inside dosbox, there the installation
works flawless and the game (shareware) runs fine. Maybe the
full version runs fine that way, too.

Ahh, that works now (for the full version too). Thanks!

Could you please compare if the installation without msdos has more
files (especially directories) than the dosbox-only installation?

I found the shareware version of the game and some directory cut is missing inside dosbox.

Yes but that's the fault of dosbox (some errorcode is not set in int21/ax=3c).
I just wanted to know if this would fix the full version as well.
