I installed DOSBox 0.63 on my computer with XP-OS.

In DOSBox, I mount up DOSBox's drive C: and F:

mount c c:\DOSBox stuff\MyGame
mount f f:\ -t cdrom -ioctl

Drive F is now mounted as Cdrom...
It's okay so far.. but when I try to install the game from F: to C:
using "Setup" I get the error message
"This program requires Microsoft Windows"

What the hell should I do???
Cause if I try to install via setup.exe in win it says it requires DOS...

Kippesoep: I'm trying to install a game called "Quest for Fame" in DOSBox 0.63

Chaosfish: I've tried that.. but I know for sure it is the setup.exe.

But why the "..Requires windows.." error message?
I can't find it in any faq or troubleshoot =/

Maybe it's a ms-dos game using a STUPID windows installer. It wouldn't be the first time, specially under certain CD-ROM editions.

Install game using Windows. After that, use DOSBox.

If it's the game "Stardom: Your Quest for Fame", then that is a Windows game and won't run under DOSBox. The installer may be stupid, though.

Wow does that strum still work on modern machines ??

For people who don't know: Quest for Fame was operated using a "strum" which could be hooked up on your serial port. You had to play "tunes" in the game by moving the strum with your hand.

Well I've got a converter so it'll work just fine 😀

I've figured out what the problem is.. You run setup.exe from
your cdrom in windows, and the installation process will be cancelled by win itself saying: "You need DOS 6.22 or higher to play this game"

I've been struggling for hours and I've found a way to
make the install anyway. Making a bootdisc, restart, and start computer
with cdrom support. BUT. You'll need a FAT32 partion damnit.
Of course I only have NTFS, and I'm not so happy about creating a
new partion right now.

Maybe someone could help me in this moment.. do you think ntfs4dos or
Active ntfs reader will work it out?

"Houston, we have a problem..." 🙁
DOSBOX internal DOS reports itself as DOS 5.0... So the game may refuse to work (but maybe just the Windows installer is so strict).
You can use the disc image support (BOOT,IMGMOUNT) to install another version of DOS to the DOSBOX.
