hi, sorry for asking help on my first post... but here it goes

i've recently tried to install/play discworld 1, but i've hit a little problem, and i'm not entirely sure what to do...

firstly, i installed the game as usual, only to be surprised to find that there was no configuration before playing, and that it went it to the game immediately... a little confused i continued, but there was no sound

so i went digging around on the cd-rom, i found a 'setsound.exe' file, i ran it in dosbox, i found it, and everything was going to plan, but then... just before finishing, i got a message, something along the lines of 'unable to save to config file'

i then tried putting 'setsound.exe' file along with the rest of the cd to the mounted C:/ drive, i tried again, this time it reported that no drivers were found

i gave a moments thought, and decided to mount the cd on my hdd, but once again i got the unable to save message

so, now im out of ideas, i looked around the forums to see if the problem was known, however, im relatively new to the dos emulation thing, and so most things that i read went strait over my head

so what action should i take next?

and help is welcome

oh and im using the latest(stable) version of dosbox, and discworld version 'argentum collection'

thanks for your time:)

That's what the forum is for 😉

Did you install the game inside dosbox? How exactly do you mount drives?

ty for the speedy reply:)

yes

and

[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.
mount C C:\game
mount D D:\ -t cdrom

in the config file

i dont feel your giving me enough credit;)

oh, and btw, i managed to get discworld 2 and toonstuck running pretty quickly

Don't know what that argentum collection is, but normally you should
be taken to some sound configuration during the installation.
Anyways try to find the setsound.exe on the installation (c:\ inside
dosbox) and use that one, not the one on the cdrom.

usually there is, but it doesn't seem to apply for this

not there

however there's a config file, i tried using that within dosbox, i get setsound unknown command error, so i put the file(setsound.exe) in the root, but then it says there are no drivers, even when the whole disc is within the installation folder

Better undo that step 😉
Where did that config file come from? Maybe have a look at its contents,
could be there are some entries for configuration.

Also try starting the game executable with something like
"game s" or "game ?".

What i meant was starting the game with "disc s" or "disc ?" or something,
by times games use parameters to set the sound.
But it's a bit odd that there is no setsound in the installation, only on the cd.

you rock:D its strange though, as i thought i has done that:-/

however, when i run it from the cd, i get midi and digital audio setting, but ive done what you told me and only digital audio settings were selectable does that matter?

lastly, i had to copy "AILDRVR.LST" from the cd to hdd, cause it asked me to:-/
