Ok, about a year ago I tried getting this game to work in DOSBox, but to no avail (no problem getting it to run in XP, but obvious control errors and what not).

So here I am trying again. 😅

I'll start by saying that my copy is indeed a pirated version, an ISO disk image.

This version also came with a Windows XP compatible installer, which I assume simply copies files from the ISO into the standard C:\dagger directory.

It also includes the .213 patch (which runs after said installation), and includes options to run without the disc (which I've selected).

I'm using DOSBox Version 0.71 with the default configuration.

The ISO is mounted on E:\ through Daemon tools

The Z.cfg file is as follows:

type dfall_huge path c:\dagger\arena2\ pathCD c:\dagger\arena2\ fadecolor 0 mapfile d rendergame 1 user 1 startMap 179 region 17 […]

type dfall_huge
path c:\dagger\arena2\
pathCD c:\dagger\arena2\
fadecolor 0
mapfile d
rendergame 1
user 1
startMap 179
region 17
helmet 0
maxSpeed 200
controls betaplyr.dat
maps mapsave.sav
cheatmode 1

My computer is a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz with Hyper-thread, and ATI X850 Pro, and Windows XP SP2.

Basically, my question is, can someone give me a step-by-step on how to geth this game to run through DOSBox? I know a few of the basics of DOSBox, such as mounting, but not a whole lot.

Thank you.

UPDATE: Forgot to mention I also have VDMS tot ake care of sound issues.

Not entirely sure what you mean. The ISO disk image is mounted on a virtual drive (E:\) through Daemon tools. Changing the Z.cfg pathCD to match the E:\ simply causes DOSbox to freeze when I do the following

mount c C:\dagger

and I have it run the DAG.bat file which is

@FALL.EXE Z.cfg

As said, DOSBox doesn't do anything afterwards, it just sits there, dead. This is why I'm asking someone to give me the steps to get the game to work, from beginning to end. Because quite frankly, I really don't know exactly what I'm doing.
