Tried to fit as much as I could in the post topic, pretty much everything. I am trying to get good old carmageddon (with 3dfx glide) going again now that there seems to be support in dosbox for it (unofficial as it may be).

I don't have any other games (off the top of my head) to test this on so it may be specific to carmageddon.

When I start glide mode of carmageddon if I press any buttons on the joystick dosbox immediately crashes, this is at any point, even while the game is doing the initial startup. I have tried the latest non-CVS build (.71) carmageddon in non-glide mode and no problem. I have tried non-glide in ykhwong's 20070806 no problem. I have also tried glide mode in 2 joystick mode without a problem.

I tried erasing the mapping of joystick buttons 1 and 2 on both joysticks and then mapping the joystick buttons to access keys on the keyboard (set joystick button 1 to [, button 2 to ], etc...) and still as soon as I hit a joystick button, it crashes. The idea being to remove the joystick buttons from being visible to the game.

Cycles set to max, core set to auto (dynamic?). Tried normal and still crash.

The joystick is a ps2 (actual) joystick through a usb adapter (super joybox).

As for the list of information:
# Motherboard
-not sure, I think its msi K8N Neo4H
# Processor type and speed
AMD64, uncertain speed (xp sais 2.41 ghz)
# Amount and type of RAM
2 gigs (unknown type)
# Video board w/ RAM amount and type
GeForce 7600 GS 512 megs
# Sound board
onboard sound (though I have an old ensonic board plugged in for an old joystick)
# Operating system
windows xp SP2
# Game name (and version, if applicable)
Carmageddon (no splat pack, 3dfx version and not)
# Description of problem (be detailed: saying "it's jerky" doesn't help, saying "the player sprites seem to be jerky when I'm pressing any of the arrow keys" does)
see above, I have trouble interpreting winxp error messages or I would post the specific crash.
# Reproducibility of problem (always, only once, always but only on a specific level, etc.)
see above...
# Sound mode used
sb16, rate 44100, all else default
# Video mode (Software, OpenGL, Direct3D, or Glide, and resolution)
various, mostly full screen overlay and fullscreen glide.
# Version of emulator (for VDMSound, probably 2.0.4 or 2.1.0; for DOSBox, 0.58+)
see above
# Steps already attempted to solve the problem (please say you've read the README if you haven't, and READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!)
see above, spent quite some time with the docs folder and searching around forums.

I haven't tried other joystick modes yet though... (I think ch virtual pilot pro was recognized by carmageddon 1).

Sorry, I do remember threads on the unofficial builds before but I guess that was a while ago... (check my join date)

I do have some other issues with Carmageddon on this build that are showing up in .71 as well but I am not quite done trying some ideas so I will put up a separate post if/when the time comes. I suppose this thread could get locked down to prevent this unofficial build related question from getting much more attention <shrugs>.

Well try to figure if the carmageddon problems are reproducable on
the 0.71 release and if so post again with details.
ykhwong seems to have closed his forum, or i'm too stupid to find it.
If you're certain some problem is related to the glide stuff try some
older versions of the builds.
