Hi

Im having problem with my dosbox application on my laptop as far as i can tell. I have never previously had problems with dosbox on my stationary/desktop pc.

Dosbox seems to crash randomly ingame (usally at least within an hour). Numbers apear all over the screen, often in brown text, then dosbox becomes nonresponsive or closes down automatically.

This happend with many of my old games.

im running a hp 2500, XP, 2,6 ghz. 512 ram, radeon IGP 345 M
running 0.72 v of dosbox

any hints would be much appreciated!

Andy

My guess would be overheating. Either of your CPU or graphics "card".

In the folder where you installed DOSBox (%ProgramFiles%\DOSBox-0.72) there should be a file named dosbox.conf. Create a copy of the original dosbox.conf, then open dosbox.conf with Notepad. You should see a place where it says

output=surface

Change it to one of the listed values, e.g. opengl, save the file, and try to start DOSBox again.

I am afraid that you will have to do a lot of experimenting 🙁

Try changing core=auto to core=normal, and then test.

If that doesn't work, try changing cycles=10000.

If that doesn't work, try configuring the game with no sound (no SoundBlaster, no Gravis, no MIDI).
