I have installed and gotten everything confugured as near as I can tell for warcraft 2. It runs fine except for one thing.... if you are familiar with the game there are a few things that you can do with shortcut keys, selecting a few poeple and hitting contrl-# assigned that # to the group instantly selecting them upon hitting that key. Spacebar returns to you the location of the last message for a character, and shift-F# results in marking the location at which to entered that on the map... well the shift one works but the cntrl-# does not work (also found a website that said certain versions only did cntrl-a# tried both no worky, and the spacebar does not work. this is a full legitimate copy. I think it could have somthing to do with the dosnbox keys being attached to contrl.....but nothing seems attached to spacebar but it doesnt work either.... any help would be great, its so hard to play without it.

Most of the "common RTS" shortcuts won't work in the DOS version, AFAIK. I think the DOS version only has the "go to previously defined map position" shortcut, nothing more in terms of "navigation" or group selection. I've started playing the DOS version, and switched to the Windows version ("Warcraft II Battle.Net Edition") after some maps because of this. The Windows version is much more user friendly.

Concerning DOSBox: if you keyboard is configured correctly (=DOSBox show all keys correctly), key combinations like CTRL-x or ALT-x should work, as well.

Some shortcuts from this FAQ:

Ctrl + H - keystroke help
Alt + H - keystroke help
F1 - Help Menu

Shift + F2 - save map location 1
Shift + F3 - save map location 2
Shift + F4 - save map location 3

F2 - Recall map location 1
F3 - Recall map location 2
F4 - Recall map location 3

F5 - Options Menu
F7 - Sound options
F8 - Speed options
F9 - Preferences

F10 - Game menu
F11 - Save game
F12 - Load game

Ctrl + X - exit Warcraft II
Alt + X - exit Warcraft II

Ctrl + Q - quit to menu
Alt + Q - quit to menu
Ctrl + R - Restart Scenario

Ctrl + O - options menu
Ctrl + T - Warcraft II tips

Alt + M - Toggle music on/off
Alt + S - Toggle SFX on/off
Ctrl + M - music options
Ctrl + S - SFX options

Alt + C - Center on current unit
TAB - Toggle mini map mode

+ - Increase game speed
- \ Decrease Game speed

the CTRL keys were only added in the .Battle.net edition of the game.
