Hi there, 😀

I just started using DOSBox and the results have been great so far with stuff like Commander Keen.

I've come across a hitch when trying to start Sierra's Rama from 1996 though. I've got the game installed in C:\Sierra. So I mount that as my DOSBox C-drive. This contains a directory "RAMADOS" in which there is the RAMADOS.BAT file that is needed to start the game. So the path is C:\Sierra\RAMADOS\RAMADOS.BAT.

No matter what I've tried so far, every time I attempt to start that file I get the following error message:

"directoryname is longer than 8 characters and/or contains spaces.
Try cd C:\sie~1
Illegal Command c:\sierra\ramados\sier"

I tried using the ~1 trick(both the suggested one in the erros message, as well as for the bat file), I left off the file extension(which results in a command of 7 characters?), I renamed the batch file to have only 4 characters, mounted C:\Sierra\RAMADOS, and so on.

For comparison, "SIER.EXE" in the same directory will start, too bad that it doesn't start the game, though.

At this point I'm stuck. Anyone have any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

You should install the game from INSIDE DOSBox. Then you won't have any long file names.

Thanks, that did the trick.

Kinda makes sense, as DOSBox is a virtual machine. I had immediate flashbacks to my youth, as well as previous forays into this area with VDM Sound where the install was still done with the MS Command Prompt.
