Hi, I've just started fooling around with DOSbox, and I've officially hit my first problem that has left me completely stumped. When I run SimCity 2000 It works fine for about 20 seconds, then I get this error-DOS/4GW Professional fatal error (1000): transfer stack overflow.

I'm running DOSBox .72 on OS X 10.4.11 on a MacBook 2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 ram. Anyone run into this issue before?

I've tried editing dosbox's config file to change what sound card it's emulating as well as changing the settings in simcity to match them, as well as turning sound off on simcity, but still get the same error.

Either set fixed cycles or use a CVS build.

Could you tell me how did you do that? I've got the same problem. Maybe you already had found optimal settings? Please, share it.

If you're using osx, i just used a dosbox frontend called boxer, and it magically made it all work correctly. never got to the bottom of what caused the issue, though. hope this helps.

Ironically I have no idea why SC2000 would work on Boxer but not DOSBox 0.72 either. Boxer does not special-case this game; it may just be down to the game being installed to a subfolder, or some other vagary of installation. Still, glad it works! 😀

As a note for people recommending fixes for OS X users: the only CVS builds available for OS X (rhoenie's, found here) are still very unstable, and so not currently suitable to recommend as a fix for crash problems.
