Hi, Newbie here.
My husband and I enjoy the old games. We currently have 'Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?' and want to play together on our separate computers. Makes for great fun competing that way.
I was able to mount the game in the Dosbox on my Win Vista, but he is not able to do the same on his Win XP. We both have Dosbox 0.72.
I used the Dosbox walkthrough repeatedly on his computer to try and mount the game, as I did on my computer. I used the same walk through that is provided on the Dosbox download web site. The same one that made everything work perfectly on mine.
When we do the walk through with his XP computer, we get the message, ' C :\Where in the world is Carmen Sandiego' doesn't exist.
We tried 'Mount c c:\' . We were figuring that if we could get a C:\ prompt that we could install the game that way. Like a backdoor type of thing. No such luck.
We got the message that it was NOT a good idea to 'mount c c:\' . So we left that alone out of fear we'd kill his computer. He has a Compact Presario with WinXp. Plenty of memory, as he rarely adds programs or games to it. (He uses it for online gaming mostly.)
Carmen Sandiego plays perfectly on my Win Vista though. Obviously there is something we're missing or not doing. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I have tried all of the advice that I have been able to locate on Vogon to try and solve the problem to no avail.
Please put it in plain Enlish. I don't understand half of the words I see on this forum. Neither one of us speaks computer talk. It's like trying to order a regular sized plain coffee at Starbucks. You just can't say, "give me a regular plain coffee please", without having to stand there and spend the time to figure out how to say it in Starbucks language. If you say it in plain English anyhow, they ask you in Starbucks talk if you want this or that and you haven't the faintest idea what they are saying. That's kind of how I feel reading all of the strange words on this forum.
So please try to dumb it down for me, please? Suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks. Cool breezes and warm wishes to you and yours.
