sorry, didnt realize i posted in the wrong thread. also, i apologize if this issue has been adressed before, but i looked around the site the best i could and still havent found an answer. anyone have any suggestions?

You could try running it with a Doom source port.

It will run natively in Vista and add lots of functionality, such as higher resolutions. You can also play the fan-made Chex Quest 3.

ok, so i download one of those source ports for DOS, then load the game from there? im really not familiar with any of this so sorry if im a bit confused 🤣

Most of the source ports run in Windows, so you won't have to worry about DOS at all. The most popular ports are Doom Legacy and ZDoom. Just download and install one of them and place the Chex Quest WAD file into the directory. Then you can drag and drop the file into source port executable.

Though stuff runs fine in dosbox if the keys work in the dosbox shell and
the game's config is at default.

i should also note doom source ports do not necessarily behave like Chex Quest should behave. DOSBox (for the first game) or recent Zdoom (seperately or with Chex Quest 3) are the best options.

yea im using dosbox, thats the thing...hopefully i can get it working without needing to install anything else. BLOOD works just fine, so maybe its a file in the game or something?
