I have a high end Core 2 duo machine but still X-COM runs slow, except when in the map part it runs allright. What can I do to try to make it faster?
I think Master of Orion II has the same system requirements and it runs better than X-COM.
This is the original X-COM Apocalypse from 1997 by the way, not from steam. And I have the original CD which I use to play it, no cracks or that kind of thing. It doesn't work in my XP (16-bit DOS stuff doesn't work at all, maybe my Windows is broken) so I have to use dosbox.

That issue's being adressed in the Codex of Ultimate DOSBox Wisdom called "Readme.txt". 😉
You should really check it out before posting (especially the FAQ section), otherwise you won't get much help here.

Use my config - X-com Apocalypse install hangs on CD Test.
