Hi again, i've been away for a while, anyway oddly enough i'm still having problems getting leisure suit larry 6 to run on dosbox. I have the cd version of the game so its the talkie version, the problem is the game does start and there is music but theres no audio or the characters cannot talk.
Plus it freezes and plays up, the last guy too answer me (forgot the name sorry) suggested a larry 6 installer from the sierra help pages. Well i've basically tried all that, l run it in dosbox via a frontend or something like that, that boyofdestiny suggested, and l receive an error message that sais ILLEGAL COMMAND so im guessin it cannot be executed, plus ive tried to install it via windows xp, and l do have my cd in the cd rom drive, but l still am getting nowhere.
One question l have is which larry 6 update do l need (i've tried both), the website is below where you can obtain the installer )

http://www.sierrahelp.com/Patches-Updates/New … llers.html#Note

there's 2 for larry 6, anyway it would be wonderful to get some help, and if possible some simple instructions would be appreciated too, the sooner l get this game running smoothly the better, also l won't be hassling you guys all the time 🤣
bye

Aaron

I hate to be the jerk that says this but "I have the Cd version (talkie) of Larry 6 and I don't have any problems running it in DosBox".

Is there some sort of info that I could give you to help you out?

I created an iso image of the cd, mounted that image and ran the install straight from dosbox. How are you installing the game?

Hello.
I've checked Sierra Help pages and there's no installer for LSL6 CD version there is one for the Larry collection (the most recent one, not Greatest hits and misses...), so, my question is this: are you using the original LSL6 CD version, the Greatest hits one or the Collection one (those last two I believe don't have speech...Greatest hits and misses I am SURE has no speech)?
If you are indeed using the CD version with only LSL6, which sound cards are you selecting on the installer? Only Soundblaster (and it's variants, incluiding thunderboard) provides decent speech (there's a patch in the Sierra help pages that enables it to use Gravis, but my results were far from good, speech crackled), also, I recall the sierra sbdrive had some issues and sometimes didn't play nice with certain Soundblaster configurations, so, check your dosbox.conf to see first if soundblaster is enabled, second, which IRQ is it using and which address and DMA.
The most common IRQs for soundblasters were 5 and 7, I have mine set at 7 and every game in the LSL series works fine, also, the regular address is 220, along with dma 1 and dma 5 as 16 bit dma, check for conflicts if you have gravis enabled, if you do, either do a .conf with gravis disabled or change the addresses and irqs for GRAVIS, I use: 240,3,3 (Address, IRQ, DMA)
I recommend you delete your current LSL6 and do a fresh one, also, don't forget to mount the CD when you're going to play...
LSL 6 provides a nice way of checking if your DAC is working, besides the speech...press some of the function keys (F1 and F3 I'm almost certain work) and you SHOULD get some digitized sound, to at least check if your configuration is being recognized.
Well, hope some of this helps.

About your other post, it is possible to run LSL 6 without a CD, if you copy certain files and edit resource.cfg (or resource.win) by hand (and I believe lsl6.bat too...the CD I recall is there), but let's solve this first, shall we?

Best regards

Not so: Leisure Suit Larry Series Installers. I have no installer for 2006 collection, just a patch. Of the rest of the games in the series I have installers for everything except Larry's Casino and The Ultimate Pleasure Pack. The installer for LSL6 works with either the floppy version or the CD. It is true that the floppy version of LSL6 only had VGA graphics and no speech and the CD version had VESA graphics with speech.

The original poster is probably long gone, but I don't expect anyone else to support my installers and I can't be expected to run all over the internet looking for people that need support with them. I don't check all other forums thoroughly everyday. Anyone that needs support for my installers can ask for help on the SHP Forums.

Well, didn't find your installer, and personally don't need it, but it's great someone cares; as for the original poster, I'm rather sure he has some version from the collection series...hence the lack of speech.

My installers are intended mostly for the inexperienced users, but many knowledgeable people use them, too, for the convenience as well for the included patches and custom icons. The Collection Series and Ultimate Pleasure Pack do have the talkie version. Greatest Hits & Misses and the 2006 collections do not. You may be right if he does have the Greatest Hits & Misses. I doubt he has the 2006 collection, since the games' files are packed in a protected CAB file and wants the CD's included installer to unpack it. His problem could also be that he never mounted his CD right for the game to have access to the audio resources, or his RESOURCE.CFG is not pointing to the right location for these resources.

Further speculation is rather pointless as he is probably long gone and did not give enough information to determine exactly what his problem is. This is part of the reason that I started to write these installers. Getting enough information out of some people is like pulling teeth. I have found it to be quicker and easier to throw together an NSIS script than it is to play 20 questions with a newbie multiplied by all of the people asking for the same help for the same game, over and over again.
