Is it possible to install (on the mounted c: volume) and run Windows 3.1 ?

Partially. W3.0 is to W3.1 in about the same relation as original W95 to W98SE. Both are very similar (same architecture) , but there are still some visible improvements in the later products. For example I think that True Type fonts were introduced in W3.1. There were other smaller things. And there are applications which require the later products.

W3.0 started Microsoft success with Windows. It was also the last Windows able to run on PC XT (supporting real mode).

I'm just going on experience having supplied 100 odd copies with DOS 6.22 on customer's machines. I stand corrected if there was a non workgroup 3.11, I just never saw it in the pricelists!
