It's even on the original version?! That sucks!

There is a 1.10 patch you can get on Patches Scrolls that you can try. Didn't do a damn thing for me though in regards to the static sound.

I just know if people were suffering this same problem in 1996 playing the game non-emulated (on Windows 95 or DOS I presume), then its probably not a DOSbox issue.

The game was orignally released around 1994:

Is your copy from 1994? Maybe they released a floppy version without the static. *Shrug* I don't know... Maybe someone with an old 486 with DOS can confirm the issue for you.

I guess Broderbund has a support page for the jewel case version of this game:

http://support.broderbund.com/faq_list.asp?id=437

They nicely provide workarounds for the 2 problems not fixed by the patch:

Entering Elevator Results in Crash or Freeze
Graphics Disappear During Play

Apparently there were 3 different versions:

Floppy
Boxed CD
Jewel case CD

Each version requires a different 1.1 patch... so maybe each version is different. I'll research some more on the issue.

I wonder if I could just make a cheezy redbook track of equal length and replace the bad track. If I then heard my track in game, it would confirm its a mastering issue... and provide an ugly patch of sorts.

any programming geniuses out there willing to accept the challenge and develop a patch?

personally I think it would be cool to have something like Exult for all the SSI games. kinda surprised there hasnt been any projects like that yet.
