If you're looking for an idea of a pre-1996 DOS game that has multiplayer support, you could check this well written list:

A little warning: Do not build the nullmodem cable described on that site. Under certain circumstances it can damage your serial ports.
A proper nullmodem cable looks like this:
2 - 3
3 - 2
4 - 6
5 - 5
6 - 4
7 - 8
8 - 7
1+1=10
I want to know something about online DOS games, back in the day i used to play via IPX and Modem ( i remember that my parents were angry with me because of the phone bill, those were the days 😉), which are the other possible ways for playing On-line in DOS?
You can play it with DosBox, that emulates modem and ipx so you can use it with broadband.
It was cool that If I was used in both like dsbox and also in the ipx. It was so interesting. I will try to bit high score in each game and enjoy with it. I wish that It would be work fine on both.
