Hey

This might sound wierd, but I just realized that the original PSU for my Fujitsu OEM computer is killing my internet connection! Thing is that I'm too lazy to draw Ethernet cables around the house so I have this devolo 1200+ ethernet over powerline solution. Maybe not the best ping but I do not game anymore so what ever, it just works. But recently it hasn't which has been a nightmare when I've been working at home remot controlling devices at work,. Teams meetings etc.

So I ran some long time ping tests on my surface pro and see that if I connect the power cable of the old Fujitsu mini tower computer the ping gets much higher and I loose packages etc. If I turn the computer on it seems to get worse it seems, but I'm not sure.

I know there are some workarounds for this but I first wonder if there might be something wrong with the PSU?

The computer is connected to the same outlet as the "first" devolo device that connects the rest of the house (and the wireless router) to the internet.

Update: I just pulled the PSU and replaced it with something modern. This is the culprit..

Finally I won't get any more complaints from my 10 yo that the WiFi sucks!

Powerline internet is said not to work on a power bar with surge suppressors, so maybe that would work both ways, if you stick misbehaving equipment on one of those it might cut the frequencies that disturb it. Though ideally you probably wanna find out the why of it, as it probably ain't a good thing it's putting crap on the power.

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

Yeah if I have the time I will test the PSU. Just looking at the specs of the PSU it kind of looks useful with the minus rails so might be worth keeping..

I don't really know how to test this and I'm not a fan of working on the high voltage side of a PSU.. and this is maybe not recommended Saturday evening...😁

Do I understand this correctly, your Fujitsu computer had a Codegen PSU ? I hope that was not delivered as such from the factory (Codegen PSU was a post-purchase modification) .

Codegen does not have a stellar reputation, to put it lightly .

I only just owned my Fujitsu a few months, so I don't know if it is original. But it does look like it is not to be honest. I really needed to change it anyway because it is one of those mini towers where the only way to remove heat is through the PSU, and it's not very nice to use a 60mm for that purpose...

Re: A tale of two PSUs

I remember getting a letter sometime early 2000s from a retailer about a recall of some Codegen PSU I had bought from there earlier, can't remember what was wrong with it but I do remember buying it because it was cheap which is of course the best of reasons to pick a PSU.

Had already changed that PSU for some reason by that time though.
