I am working on a NEC PowerMate V75, it has a no name SIS 501 Motherboard. I am trying to get it to run with a AMD K5-100 but the BIOS is not compatible with K5 CPU's. I am wondering if any one has one of these\has been able to get a K5 running in it\has an updated BIOS they could share.

I can't help you but I want to say that that's a gorgeous system! 😃 Really cool!

Which BIOS version are you running atm - this archived NEC support page lists 2 versions (links are dead)

Theres also this forum post that implies BIOS could be either AMI or Phoenix

Currently I am running this BIOS :

D1520BB3.EXE Size: 287,469 PowerMate VP75 BIOS - version 0.00.09 Date: 03/13/95

It is a Phoenix BIOS.

Thanks for the link,I am going to try to track down the later versions of the BIOS.

I found a dump of the NEC FTP site here :

https://archive.org/details/ftp.necam.com

DLing it now, its slow so will take some time, hope the BIOS files are in the dump.

I see the ftp dump lists another BIOS in the VP75 directory - D18001B3.EXE (BIOS Version 0.02.21 / Date: 05/08/96). Strangely it's also listed in my first link, but only for the PowerMate V75e & V100e - assume they must be cross-compatible.

Normally you can avoid downloading the whole thing:

Reminder: you don't -have- to download everything if you are after something specific from an archive.org upload, you can browse within ZIP/RAR/etc. compressed files there, and only download parts! This used to be pretty secret functionality, but it's come a long way. The easiest way to do that nowadays is to click "SHOW ALL" under the available download options, and then click "View Contents" beside the file you are interested in!

Unfortunately, mr_Slug uploaded it instead as one giant tarball (https://ia601900.us.archive.org/17/items/ftp. … am.com/info.txt), and archive.org can't natively uncompress a split tarball (yet, if ever).

Tried BIOS version D18001B3.EXE PowerMate V75e/V100e BIOS Upgrade Ver 1.48.01 BIOS v0.02.21. This version of the BIOS is not compatible with the VP75.

When using the included flash file I get the error below. When i flash the BIOS using a programmer the system does not boot. It appears that the 0.00.09 version of the BIOS is the latest version and it does not support AMD k5 CPU's.

@PC Hoarder Patrol Thanks for your help.

No problem 😀

Probably the only way to go AMD would be using one of those upgrade module -type processors, like this one (lists the VP75 as compatible, though it may require a Unicore or MicroFirmware BIOS , instead of NEC) - https://www.hantz.com/asp/newproducts/Produkt … duktID=21&CID=1
