IBM PS1000 won't start WfW 3.11

Hi,

I got a strange Issue with my PS1000.
I can run Windows for Workgroups 3.11 with the win /d:t command where it basically disables all VxDs
Works perfectly fine.
But in any other mode it hangs on the blue splash screen or on the logon window, cursor in the password field blinking but keyboard and mouse frozen...
I already suspected the network card so I used a NE2000 and a 3COM etherlink III but both didn't work out.
Also starting windows with win /n brought me to the desktop but mouse and keyboard were frozen.

I have no idea what is wrong with that PS1000 but is there something special to it I might not know?
Do I need a special version of windows?
Is the 486 CPU in it some weird custom IBM OEM thing?
Feels almost like that thing is moody or something 😁

Hi there!

It's not your fault and your system is fine, I think.

User oerk hat the same issue with his PC years ago.
It seems there's a compatibility issue with WfW 3.11..

Unfortunately, I don't know how to help.
Maybe there were patches released by MS ?

On www.win31.de there's a mirror link to the old Microsoft patches/KB articles.

Alternatively, just use WfW 3.10 - it has most features, but is based on an older 16-Bit network stack.
And it lacks the HDD caching feature. Otherwise, it's close to WfW 3.11.

Windows 3.1 OK? 3.11 locking up? Here is the fix!
It seems that did the trick 😀
I never knew something like that could happen.
