So a standard IDE cable doesn’t fit the connector on the xtide (glitchworks) card because of the extra pin. What’s the standard approach? Cut out the extra pin? Use a cable that isn’t keyed?

p.s. I would prefer not to cut out pin 20 since one of my devices (DOM) needs power on that pin (but doesn’t need a cable!)
I think I answered my own question, I’ll just use a cable that isn’t keyed for pin 20 being gone.
Drill a small hole in your IDE cable where the key pin is.
Cool idea, thank you.
Some of them it's a plug you can pick out with a pin or tiny screwdriver.
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
I agree with the foreposters.
The nose and that extra pin were added as a key pin in the late 90s, to make things fool proof. 🙄
Before the key pin, a red line on the ribbon cable marketed pin 1.
Just be aware that the key pin also was used for other purposes. For example, to carry +5v for DOMs (flash modules).
However, not sure if the XTIDE cards fo support this feature.
