Hi all,

Last week I (nearly) completed my retro Pentium 3 PC. I created the build in order to play games from the late 90's till 2002.
I tried installing Max Payne 1 and Medal of Honor Allied Assault. However, both games won't run to my dissapointment. Medal of Honor gives a horrible framerate in the main menu. It's so bad I can't even click anything. Max Payne won't start at all and gives the error message - 'Error: setFullscreen - creating the device failed : D3DERR_NOTAVIABLE'

The specs of my system should run both games.
Mobo: Matsonic ms7127c
CPU: P3 1 GHZ
GPU: Geforce Ti 4200 128 MB
RAM: 256 MB RAM (Both from a different brand, but both run at 133 MHZ)

I installed the latest drivers for the GPU and also updated to direct x 9, however this didn't work. The OS and games are installed on a IDE to SD Adapter. Does anyone else have an idea?

Does DXDIAG give you any clues?

Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.

That's your issue right there.

Try using 45.23 or lower for a GeForce4 under Win98SE.

Yep, that's what happens if major corporations can't be bothered to have basic content management for three figure products and the customer let's them get away with it without a beating.
So, this is why we can't have nice things and ceterum censeo microsoftem esse delendam.

For what is worth, my Geforce4 128 is real finicky with certain drivers in Windows 98. I said screw it and just keep it on XP for now. If it was a 4x card, I don't think I would have any problems in 98.
