Continuing on the "unboxing", a ASRock N68-s UCC with an underwhelming cpu, the Sempron 140:

you could carry out some experiments with this sempron, i think they can potentially be 'unlocked' as 2 core cpus and/or potentially overclocked

even without that it would make for a very fast single core late 2000's setup

Can confirm the Sempron 145 is like a 99% percent chance of being a dual core CPU eith fully working second core, believe the 140 was the same. Competes with Wolfdale C2d iirc

19 core 2 CPUs in a mixed lot for 30 bucks, looks to be a pair of E8400s in there and a E6600 also for some reason a i7-870 . .which is not a core2 cpu and a i3-2130 which is also not a core2 cpu but hey I need some 775 CPUs I can sacrifice to the Overclocking gods and not worry too much. (The 2130 is clocked to 3.4 .. I wonder if it'll clock as high as the 2600k does....hmm)

on closer inspection of the photos there is also three Xeon 771 CPUs in there.

not a bad haul on the cheap and I can sell the E8400s and the two non 775 cpus which will cover the initial cost.

Can someone tell me right away what standard the one on the left ist?
Some old notebook type?

It's a cache module.
Can you make more detailed pictures from both sides, please?

Yes, if you google the writing on the white label, you find a forum entry that mentions the Fujitsu Siemens socket 3 motherboard that I linked to before. May not be the only one, but that has the fitting socket.

Thank you.
There are many different cache modules in this form factor made by Cypress, Motorola and others.
They were mostly chipset specific and for 486 machines.
I was once searching for one for an Intel Aries / EX chipset based system but they are nearly unobtainable today and if you can find one it mostly doesn't fit your specific machine.
Your module's part number isn't mentioned in any documentation from Cypress (I have) so it's hard to tell what chipset it's made for. Unless you certainly know which machine it fits you shouldn't insert it anywhere for trial & error since they all have different pinouts and if it doesn't match either the module, the system or both will make the smoke of peace.

The best you can do is put in to stash for now or salvage the SRAMs (if needed) since although still obtainable today many modern SRAMs aren't 100% compatible to 5V system logic levels anymore. They will mostly work but that's not guaranteed.

Edit: Just saw that I have a 9251 "in stash". It's the 128kB version of your's. If you find out where it fits give me a clue 😀

If you mean the winhistory-forum, there's a user "dr. zeissler" obviously looking for such a module (and maybe others too, didn't read the whole thread).
It would be a huge coincidence if that's not the same dr. zeissler also active here on vogons.
Maybe you should give him a PM (if you want to get rid of this module).

I've acquired a Voodoo3 1000. I can't believe these things were sold with no heatsinks. Even at stock, I couldn't touch the core for more than a fraction of a fraction of a millisecond. I applied a smallish heatsink and pointed a smallish fan at the chip and it overclocked stable at 157.5MHz through various benchmarks 3DMark 1999, etc. at 800x600x16. 26% increase. The RAM was always cool to the touch. Once I pulled the fan away and locked it up in a case, 157.5MHz wouldn't hold. I should be able to get more than Voodoo3 3000 speeds with proper cooling; the RAM certainly won't be the limiting factor at 5.5ns. I'll get to that sometime in the future.

Well these 3Dfx cards are all of them stoves... They get hot AF i did measure Voodoo III 2K and it did get up to 70c on windows idle state lmao... All Voodoo cards get very hot, even Voodoo 5 5500 with fans on the heatsinks are HOT for some reason, so aftermarket cooling is needed, Voodoo II and Voodoo also get hot... For some reason one of the chips on Voodoo 5 5500 is like 15-20c more hot then the other (the one close to the VGA port), my guess is this chip is used mostly to render 2D then the other or something like that.. Or is from binning, the one chip is cooler cuz it is better bin then the hotter one..

Ah, thank you Mr Gold Recycler, I hope those precious gold fingers and gold plated jumper pins bring you all the riches you desire

Yeah FK these nasty gold scrappers... I want to use the acid they use on the precious parts to have fun with them, as they do while extracting the gold..
An pc guy i talk with, he state that the scrappers are needed in order to remove garbage and electronic waste, as if they did not exist there was going to be too many piles of unused old HW... Sure that is right, but i get mad when i see baboon scrappers to destroy precious stuff... On other hand one day these parts will end and there wont be any of them to be found, so the prices may jack even more insane after that...
Saw the same thing on a sad Voodoo 3 3000 same shit the AGP slot was cut off...

Bought a few 775s for the collection from a junkyard salesman and there was a little surprise disguising itself as a regular Pentium D.
I'm lucky Intel didn't stamp "Extreme" on every EE CPU or this would've been expensive.
Beyond happy!

Are they really "a thing" already to be "expensive"? For me they are just obsolete largely uninteresting CPUs with no real application beside maybe some linux file servers (that's exactly what I'm using Q9550 for)... I'm pulling them from machines I'm scrapping at work all the time... 😮

Some people pay good money for EE versions of anything, because they are the best chips in their families (in this case, the second best Presler Pentium, with 1066 bus)

Well some ppl will pay arm an leg for many BS stuff... For example the Pentium 4 3.4GHz EE 478 (yes i am looking for one as well) is a sluggish CPU, it have way too much cache, meanwhile Pentium 4 3.2GHz with only 512mb cache can OC to hell at 4GHz or even more, that will make it alote faster then the gallatin one.. Also Athlon XP 3200+ is the fastest CPU out there, but one mobile AthlonXP-M can trash it totally, with alot more clock speed and raw performance, yet most ppl will pay more for the 3200+, same way with gallatin EE.... Some will pay also tons of money to get their hands on GEforce 5800 Ultra, while they can get way cheaper Radeon 9800Pro/XT or FX5950 Ultra that will be faster but... Or Gravis UltraSound everyone wants one of these, yet some crap ESS Audio drive or Yamaha OPL3 card totaly wipe the floor with them, but the GUS card costs arm and leg...

Sorry, but you have no idea what you are talking about. The GUS has features that no other card has. Anyone interested in Demos from that era MUST have a GUS and even in games with native GUS support I would use that above any other option.

And about the CPU/GPU-stuff: high prices are usually paid by collectors. It doesn't matter if another alternative is 'better' in technical terms. Yes, it's 'BS' just like any other collecting-hobby.

Well i dont have the GUS myself, i say what i herad from 1-2 guys i talk to about old hw stuff. If GUS is really good, that will be nice. Still ESS Audio Drive and the Yamaha cards can be found dirt cheap, and they support ton of DOS games..

Yeah paying too much for some piece of is BS, specially from my poin of view, as with time i learned the great ability called patience, as the time progress i find many good stuff for dirt cheap, no need to pay dumb prices on ebay.. Hell the repeated good stuff i find i use to sell, and with the money i can buy even more expensive stuff...

Hopefully found a working Rev 2.0 GA-6BXC to swap in for the Rev 1.7/1.9 I've got; not holding my breath though.

Is Wii retro yet? Had to source a new optical drive for that one, luckily ifixit still sells them with lifetime warranty on the part

The GUS supports mixing of audio-channels in hardware. So you could play 14 channels 16 bit/44.1 kHz stereo without slowing the CPU down. That was unheard of at that time because with any other card the CPU had to do the mixing. We are talking about 486 generation here. Sure, the GUS was not a good replacement for a Soundblaster but one hell of an add-on.

I agree on that and most of the stuff I own I got really cheap just by watching local ads. It's just that not everybody in the world has this opportunity. And many people just don't care about the amounts of money we are talking about here.

Found a Socket 4 industrial CPU board (SBC).

Never seen one before.

I'll post the seller's pic when I can. The eBay phone app doesn't allow downloading of pictures.

Socket 4? That's certainly the first I've heard of one.

Does it come with a manual? Also, would you be willing to update the https://www.ultimateretro.net/en/ ?

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
