The first quad cores should be AM2+ AFAIK (Phenom X4 series).
It seems they are backwards compatible to AM2.

Yeah I forgot about the Phenom line .. oops, might look into AM2+ and see if its worth having over a AM3 board and simply grabbing a Phenom II X6 1100T BE or such.

A Phenom X4 9950 BE might be fun to have and its AM2+ and should be comparable to a Core2quad .. hopefully.

A Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition is also an alternative that isn't stupidly priced.

If you can find one (Phenom II X6 1100T BE).
Check MB compatibility first, not every AM3 board supports Ph II X6. They need a dual-plane board, i.e. separate voltages for CPU & northbridge.

RetroPC: K6-III+/400ATZ @6x83@1.7V / CT-5SIM / 2x 64M SDR / 40G HDD / RIVA TNT / V2 SLI / CT4520
ModernPC: Phenom II 910e @ 3GHz / ALiveDual-eSATA2 / 4x 2GB DDR-II / 512G SSD / 750G HDD / RX470

Im a very patient person when I need to be, Ill get one eventually 😁

Can get one now for about 100 AUD which isnt terrible considering a QX9770 set me back 400 AUD.

Happy about the ASUS P3B-F and Creative Permedia, the Axle S3 Savage is one of these underdog garbage brands, but it is so well preserved i decided to safe it for myself, no matter i have way better Number 9 S3 Savage Xtreme.
Anyway will try to trade that nasty ASUS P3B-F for GIGAbyte BX2000+, as i dont like ASUS as brand at all, they just like to die.. Take for example the rest boards on the picture, there are x2 478 boards, GIGAbyte and ASUS, and guess what the ASUS is very dead, while the GIGAbyte posts even with blown up caps.... Id take every day and time AOpen over ASUS, GIGAbyte too and ABIT as well all before ASUS FK that brand.... Like when they put such pictures on the VGA BIOSes and mobo ones too. Really strange this is Permedia II and does not have heatsink, while most models do have wtf...

So depressing when you've had some kit packaged in extremely shitty containers from eBay sellers who don't have a clue

That is why i call it shitting... Luckly for me the local shitting and sellers are not as dumb as most that are on ebay... Heard stories of precious parts send in mail anvelope. Other that did not put enough packing materials, foam, buble even paper if u want, you can guess the end result broken parts, bended, broken solder joints, slots ect.... Some sellers on ebay are just straight retarded it appears.. Not to mention many of them dont even bother to clean the fucking components that they want to charge premium price.... What is the premium in a retro part some ebay baboon scalper did take from his grandparents house for free, or from some local place/ scrap for pocket change and did not even clean the dirt/ dust guess that is special retro dust that did age well with the component itself.... There is nothing wrong in asking too much money for rare parts i do it as well, but at least i do it the right way, cleaning the best possible way the part, test it shoot pictures how it works, hell even giving some cheap stuff that cost 20-30 euros as bonus present when someone buys something that cost 70-100 euro, or when they buy x2 things....

But most of these ebay scalper primates will never learn how to treat their customers..... Dumb and greedy that should be the Ebay motto on the retro computer pages for sure >>>

I totally agree on the packaging part.
But why should any seller clean or test anything? As long as somebody buys the stuff as advertised the price was just right. If the item was tested it should cost even more money.
And to be honest: I'm not sure if selling parts as tested is a good idea. This stuff is so old that it might die two days after being tested and I wouldn't want to be held accountable in such a case. And 'testing' means a lot more than just 'graphics card shows boot screen'.

Btw. 25 Euro for all this is excellent 😀

I like it very much, since most cards have some top left corner basic info, when you see something more nice like this on you appreciate it.. The logos and whole pictures on some motherboards are even nicer...
SOme AOpen boards have this nice post rainbow (too bad the Voodoo V 5500 did fuck up the post screen, now only the rainbow is to be seen lmao ). Or that QDI picture art is even more impressive... There was some very interesting logo on Acorp as well... There was also on Leadtek cards, i have one messed up GF FX5950 Ultra, there was something nice on that card too, but was much of artifacts as well...

Well that is my point of view, total minimum is when asking for much golden coins (money) for some old ass computer HW that is any good only to warm some enthusiast`s heart, and not any actual work, ppl should put effort.. But i am like that with everything i sell, after all when doing something do it the right way, simply making AD for some vintage part lets say GEforce 3 card, i will feel bad and embarrassment to stand with my name selling card that have dust and dirt and maybe even to be nasty and to have even something more disgusting... I think no one that respect himself or his customers will sell parts for MUCH coin and not clean them.. If the part is shitty and dirty it should cost WAY less, now if there is dust may cost only 50% less of the actual price... Imagine there are primate sellers out there that try to sell IBM Model M keyboards for sweet coin like 150-200$ and these imbeciles did not even take the effort to clean the keyboard, and as it is peripherals it was tounched many, many, many times, and there was even food drop on it or drinks, and human hair and god knows what else.... And that nasty Model M to cost 200$ that is fucking retarded m8 it really is... My Model M costed me 10 euro and was a bit dirty, i was going to be fine even it was alot dirty and nasty, but to pay 10 with one extra 0 or double on that for nasty keyboard or part hell na...

I agree on the testing part, but my experience proof me, that normally in 90% of the cases when a part specially video card post it will very likley work in OS as well and under drivers and 3D too. Now as i dont bother to test most things after post screen as it will make me charge alot more, and no one here will pay as much, i offer 20 days refund if there is problem, but usually 98% of times all customers was happy with their retro purchases. Now if i sell on ebay there is big shitting charges, refunds and other crap to deal with it, so i will be forced to test parts after post screen (i test some parts under windows too, HDD i test there too).

U are right also that these parts are old af, they may die in 2 hours, in 2 days, 2 weeks, 2 months or even 2 or 20 years who knows, but after all in order to sell stuff and make some profit, and make customers wanting to purchase from me for example i need to shine above the others so i test the stuff.. But other point for me may be selling as is, test and working no artifacts and crap, and giving some cheaper free stuff, most ppl really enjoy free stuff like audio cards, small HDD, VGAs and other...

Added this old girl to my P3 Tualatin collection a Recapped DFI CA-64TC RevC (Rubycons) with a PIII 1.4s

s-l1600.jpg

I think this is one of the cheaper Tualatin Capable boards but I dont have a Tually board with ISA right now so this is a welcome addition next to my DDR SiS653t Tually Board, Looking to add a Gigabyte GA-6OXT with a Tualeron eventually. (Still keeping an eye out for the ultra rare Gigabyte GA-6RX which is DDR capable, have yet to see one)

Edit - This seller is great, he threw another working Tualatin board into the box as a spare at no extra charge, always happy to have an extra spare Tually board.

Arrived today ...Seller went a bit further and aside from a second identical board they also included a second CPU a Celeron 900, I dont have any Coppermine Celerons so its a nice addition along with a stick of 512mb PC133 which I was also not expecting since it was not listed as part of the lot. (512mb sticks on eBay sell for rather high amounts compared to the 128 and 256 sticks, is there a particular reason why ?)

There was a note for the second board, they believe the CPU fan header may not work . .which isn't a big issue really since there is no PWM on these boards and the CPU fan can run off a spare Molex.

Honestly a great seller, wish I could find more people like this on eBay.

And then there are those trying to just maximize their profits above all limits.
Sorry, this might not be the right place but something in me screams I've to tell that to someone.

Shortly there was this offered on a local classifieds site:

The attachment ST.JPG is no longer available

It was offered for 15 EUR and sold within a few hours.

Some days later I stumbled upon this:

The attachment ST2.JPG is no longer available

Sure everyone can buy and sell things to his taste but when I see something like this and know the background there's a knife popping up in my pocket.
(won't disguise that I had liked to buy this, not because it's an ES but because an ST's 586 is missing in my collection and this one is in very fine condition)

Seems to me like the seller realized his mistake offering this CPU way under its value. Or some friendly person told him.

I see such sellers and while I understand they just want to be filthy capitalists It does irk me to see shitty selling practices.

Sure make a profit I don’t have an issue with that but don’t be a greedy fuckhole about it, and for the love of bread don’t be so obvious about your assholery selling tactics.

WTFFF....... FK that guy sure that CPU seems very rare, but that price is nuts... He should give "free" 3Dfx Voodoo V 5.5K with that CPU and a bonus of IBM Model M keyboard in pristine condition too... Fucking ebay greedy bastards...
SO basically this CPU was on local AD site for pocket change, some scalper saw it, and now will scalping scalps of some poor bastards (or most likely rich ones) ... Cant be helped, scalpers will be scalpers, and scrappers will be scrappers... I am interested in CPU like that one as well, as i have box where i like to collect processors, want Spark CPU, DEC Alpha, IBM Blue Lightning, Intel 4004 (ouuch that will cost arm, leg, kidney, 2 kidneys..), AMD first CPU and others...

As far as I see it, this guy simply knows the CPU is rare but he has no clue what a realistic price might be. That's why he accepts offers.
Honestly I don't see anything bad about it. What would you do?

SO basically this CPU was on local AD site for pocket change, some scalper saw it, and now will scalping scalps of some poor bastards (or most likely rich ones) ...

I think it's the same person. The photo is different but has the same background. But maybe I missed something..
(And even if it is a different person I still don't see anything bad about it except a stolen photo)
