Can anyone tell me if this was a standard IBM add on ?
Yah, that's FRU SXYZ-1866, Black Widow and general arachnid control device, designation mud dauber.
Unicorn herding operations are proceeding, but all the totes of hens teeth and barrels of rocking horse poop give them plenty of hiding spots.
I got this from Texas. We dont have such exciting bugs in Wisconsin. Further research into mud daubers reveals a story like the aliens movie. It paralyses the spider, lays an egg on it, entombs it in mud… yuk.
But there is a happy ending (not for the spider) - a bit of warm water and a scrub and “it freakin works !”
Cool, might be a bit flakey for web development though until the residual protection wears off 🤣
How fast is it? The "Oh god I wish this was a decent turbo XT clone" 6mhz, or the blazing fast 8?

Brilliant. The chip says 286-6, but the oscillator crystal says 16mhz, so its overclocked to a massive 8mhz. And with 512 kb of memory, 20mb hard disk….. Do you think it was more useful as a nest for wasps?
Do you think it needs cleaning ?
Nope looks just fine to me.
*hands matches and jerry can
For the spiders you know are hiding in there waiting for their chance to rescue their brothers.
I had no idea the 286 came in a PGA package! I think every one I've ever seen was in either PLCC or LCC.
Nah, it looks fine to me, go use as is! 😀

Actually, iirc I once found one which even had a little tiny heatsink! 😜
I’ve got this monster 12mhz chip if I ever need to model weather patterns.. is this PLCC ?

Yep, thats PLCC. Most if not all of the 286s I've ever seen are in that package for whatever reason. I assume it must have been cheaper - plastic rather than ceramic.
What's the motherboard this 286 12 came in?
Cheers,
Great Northern aka Canada.
I wouldn't clean that. I'd plant potatoes in it 😀
See my graphics card database at www.gpuzoo.com
Constantly being worked on. Feel free to message me with any corrections or details of cards you would like me to research and add.

The 12mhz 286 is in an HP Vectra ES/12, also it has the 287-12 but that is an AMD DIP chip. Probably also a cost saving.
Here's a crusty T7600 Core2Duo I received. Cleaned up nicely 8)
