A company that never really got the hang of naming things so they often sold products with names like <acronym for what it is> or DEC<what it is> or, the most lazy, <5 character middle bit of the part number>

Examples:
VAX - Virtual Address Extension (to the PDP-11), DELNI - Digital Ethernet Local Network Interconnect (kind of like a hub but not really)
DECserver - a terminal server, DECstation - a workstation, DEChub - a network hub, DECpc - a line of PCs, DECmq - message queue software, DECdocument - a document processing system, DECnet - a network protocol

Wow, I never imagined that it was an acronym .

Back in the early 90s I always heard pronounce it as "teak" (like the plant) whereas everyone on Youtube seems to pronounce it "tee-ak" and that's what Google says too https://www.google.com/search?q=teac+pronunciation

I pronounce TEAC the same as you, but I'm not sure I remember hearing anyone say TEAC out loud - I sort of pronounced it in my head, heh...
