I have wanted a Tandy 1000 TL/3 ever since I got back into retro computing in 2019. These don't come up very often, but I finally was able to acquire one. It was in nearly perfect condition. It did not have any upgrades so I installed the following:
- 128K video memory upgrade with 4 64Kx4 100ns DRAM chips
- Intel 80287XL math coprocessor
- Diamond Speedstar ET4000 video card
- Blue Lava Systems XTIDE XT-CF card with a 2GB Compact Flash drive
- 3Com 3C509B networking card
- LoTech 2MB EMS card
I use MSDOS 6.22 with a multi-boot configuration to boot either to VGA or CGA connected to the same monitor. I just switch input sources to either VGA or CGA using DVI with a RGB2HDMI converter and the VSWITCH utility. I can also use either EMS or Upper Memory using the UMBEMS.SYS driver. I use an environment variable to control the running games and other software to use either VGA or Tandy CGA mode. This makes for a pretty flexible setup. I also do this exact same thing with my Tandy 1000 TL/2. Included are some pictures. The first picture of Deskmate is running in VGA 640x480x16 color mode the 2nd is Tandy CGA 640x200x16 color mode.
