First off, and I hope I'm not being a mistaken fool, can the spelling correction feature seemingly embedded in this site be turned off? I realize phones do this, and I haven't yet figured out how to turn it's feature off yet, it seems much more potent when I'm on this site. But whatever is doing it I have to conclude it's a lost cause when it changes "vcr" to "but" and can't fathom how "yrs" should actually be "yes".

My nasty neighbor threw out a gorgeous Toshiba 14" tv vcr combo. It looks so nice. And it flawlessly plays dvds my ageing laptop can't. So I had an idea, which may not even be realistic, havien't taken the back off, haven't measured anything. But on the off chance the crt chassis (only) will fit inside the case of a Commodore 1702, how difficult or simply practical is it to wire the commies chroma and luma inputs into some part of a tv's circuit board? The way I understand it theae portions of an ntsc signal are stripped off and fed into somewhere. Similar to how sync and video information is. If anyone has a clue what I'm talking about.

It isn't impossible but will definitely be an undertaking and level of success can be quite high. You start off by trying to find a service manual of the TV to get the schematic to ease your life. If such doesn't exist the big "jungle" chip datasheet needs to be located to see how the video path is laid out and then you'll get the idea what inputs there can be. Composhit is definitely available, S-video is highly likely too. Since there's a DVD player inside it is likely a component input exists too.

You may be interested in the Open Source CRT Chassis project. While chassis causes me to think about the case, I guess it's the driver board. This project lets you take good CRT tubes and replace the guts to do whatever style of input you want.
